Oil and gas operators in New Mexico will be required to capture 98 percent of natural gas emissions and be barred from venting or flaring except for emergencies.
After more than a year of public comments and debate New Mexico’s Oil Conservation Commission approved new state regulations on natural gas emissions from the oil and gas sector Thursday, voting unanimously to adopt the rules.
They were proposed by the New Mexico Oil Conservation Division (OCD) – an arm of the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD).
