A unique opportunity for community workers and educators to
strengthen leadership capacity, build community partnerships
and learn Spanish through immersion.

This exciting four week Study Tour provides participants with the opportunity to experience:

Spanish Language Immersion & Cultural Exchange

  • Native-speaking teachers with extensive experience instruct small classes.
  • Special track for La Prueba/Bilingual Endorsement Canditates
  • Three hours of intensive language instruction each day is followed by a two-hour "práctica" conversation session. 
  • Various cultural activities are offered throughout the week such as videos, hands-on arts and crafts, cooking and dancing classes, participation in local celebrations.

Community Conversations with community workers and educators.

Community Partnership & Leadership Trainings

  • Focused on developing the framework, skills, and capacity to provide leadership around community education, community development, community visioning, and partnership-building.

Talpa and Regional Attractions

Talpa is a very safe, family-friendly community with a population around 15,000 and is located in the mountains of western Jalisco state about 2 hours drive from the beaches of Puerto Vallarta and 4 hours from Guadalajara, a world-class city of 8 million people. There is regular bus service to these destinations and your weekends are free if you wish to travel.  We will help with these arrangements as well as for local recreation such as hiking, horseback riding, fishing, swimming and exploring caves and pre-Colombian sites.

 Fees and Registration Details

The cost of the tour is $2,185* which includes

  • Tuition, fees, and course materials
  • Room and board with local families**
  • 2 meals per day
  • Community Partnership & Leadership Trainings
  • Cultural Activities
  • Transportation to and from the airport in Puerto Vallarta

*Airfare is NOT included in this fee. Each participant is responsible for making their own flight arrangements.  More information will be provided once registered.

**Hotel accommodations available at an extra cost.

There is an extra cost for Child Care and Youth Program.  Call for more information.

Registration and a deposit of $500 is due May 1st
The balance is due June 1st.

Note:

If registration for the program is lower than expected, New Mexico Voices for Children maintains the right to cancel the program and will refund registration fees to registered participants.
