Santa Fe Community Partnership

Working with youth and families to create healthier communities

Purpose

To speak with a collective voice on issues of community concern, work to reduce risk factors for substance abuse and gang activity, and educate our children about the effects of alcohol, drugs and gang violence. Some specific goals among our targeted neighborhoods are:

  • Reduce alcohol abuse and illicit drug use.
  • Reduce gang activity and crime.
  • Reduce feelings of isolation.
  • Increase access to community services.

Description
The Santa Fe Community Partnership convenes a coalition of community members, service providers and other organizations, which works to build community capacity to address issues of concern and access to services.

the Partnership also supports community building, which is also accomplished through a Block Leader Program, which is founded in the Latino Promotora – or community health worker – model. The Block Leaders live in the community in which they work and, therefore, are better able to build relationships of trust and acceptance, and become advocates for change.

The Partnership also serves as an incubator for new groups in the pubic and private sectors, helping to form new coalitions and collaborations, which support policy goals.

Service Area
Santa Fe County and Northern New Mexico.

History
The SFCP was formed in 1990 as a coalition of service providers, and members of the business, faith and general communities. Working throughout Santa Fe County, SFCP has had a long history of addressing issues around drug and alcohol abuse, and crime and gang problems. Together with other agencies and organizations that share similar goals, we work to reduce crime, educate our children about the effects of alcohol, drugs and gang violence, and help strengthen family bonds.
