How You Can Help New Mexico's Children

Register to vote and VOTE! Children can't vote, so they rely on us to elect leaders who care. For information about how to register to vote vot to the League of Women Voter's "Who's Who: A Political Directory".

Know the Candidates and their issues that are important to children. Our elected officials need to be held accountable for their actions that affect our children. Stay informed so you'll know who's really for kids and sho's just kidding.

Speak out and let your elected officials know how you want them to vote on issues affecting children. We urge you to encourage them to support:

  • Full funding of early childhood care and education, including funding to improve the quality of child care.

  • Full funding of children's health care including Medicaid, health care for children with special health care needs and public health initiatives to reduce childhood illnesses and teen pregnancy.

  • Initiatives that are family-friendly and that are especially targeted at helping our most vulnerable and low-income families...this means not reducing taxes for the wealthy at the expense of programs like education, child care and health care, that need sufficient state funding to keep our children safe, well-educated and healthy.

  • Initiatives to improve our public education system so that it can provide an excellent opportunity for success for our children.

  • Common sense measures to reduce children's gun injuries and deaths.

  • And we also ask you to urge the State Board of Education to adopt policies and programs aimed at preventing bullying in our schools. ALL of our children deserve a safe learning environmnent, free from harassment, intimidation or fear of harm.
