Nominee Statement:

Service to others is important to me because I believe I am a resource to my community that will growstronger by sharing my strengths as much as I can.

Biography

Michaella Gorospe is from Santo Domingo Pueblo, New Mexico, and is the daughter of Diane Bird and Michael Gorospe. Michaella is currently a senior at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, majoring in environmental engineering.

As a freshman in high school, Michaella was part of a group of students who traveled to New York City to present the Rights of the Children proclamation that had been endorsed by the 19 Pueblo governors, to Betty King who was a representative of the United Nations.

Michaella has also volunteered for the New Mexico Supreme Court's Judicial Information Division. Here she lent her time before starting college to helping out around the office several hours a week. She organized files, typed notes and sent out mail from the office. As a freshman at New Mexico Tech in Socorro, New Mexico, Michaella became a volunteer as a reading tutor at Parkview Elementary. Michaella tutored third graders a couple of afternoons a week. Soon Michaella was volunteering for her university as a High Tech Ambassador, leading tours around campus for propective students, assisting new strudents register for classes, and helping at university events.

Recently, Michaella has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
