2007 Amy Biehl Youth Spirit Award Nominee

Bailey Eldredge

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Nominee Statement:

In my service towards others I have found a deeper understanding of myself.

Biography

My name if Bailey Eldredge. I am 17 years old. I have spent most of my life serving others whether it is my family or others in my community. My parents and extended family have modeled service towards others my entire life. I feel it is my duty. I must give back to my community. I have dedicated many of my volunteer hours to the Jason Foundation, a suicide prevention organization. We created a PSA that aired over the summer. Our goal is to rais emoney and awareness towards helping to end the silent killer, suicide. The thought that two people will attempt to end their lives in the 60 seconds that it took you to read this is distressing. If we make a difference in just one person's life then that is one more person who can make a difference in another's. New Mexico consistently ranks in the top five states for suicide. I would like to make a difference in New Mexico. I volunteered in the Congresswoman's office. This opportunity alowed me to view other resources available for helping this cause. I have also dedicated my time to the teen advisory board at the Juan Tabo library. I am now in the process of organizing a book drive. We are collecting books from around Albuquerque; we will then donate these books to two crisis agencies that are in need.
