Biography

My name is Raymond Avant and I am 13 years old. I am in the seventh grade at Wilson Middle School. I help younger children (sixth graders) with homework, and I am also a tutor. For the last three years, I have been helping my father with a parenting Skills Class that he teaches at Thomas Bell Community Center. I counsel other youth about the danger of drugs and alcohol. When we have field trips, I help with the younger children. Last year I won a $20 prize at the Wyndham Hotel in a Tobacco Prevention Program. I also volunteer by helping new students with karate at Isshin Ruy Karate Club. I was recently promoted to the Teens and Adult Class, and I have earned a white belt and am working on additional tips to move to yellow belt soon. I moved to Albuquerque from San Diego, California with my younger brother Darren in 2003 to live with my father. I like the weather much better because there is less rain.
